Visual Arts
Hand in Hand: Domestic and Creative Partnerships in the Digital Age at the Minnesota Center for Photography curated by MCP Artistic Director George Slade runs Through April 2, 2006. This exhibition is a collection of manipulated work by seven artist teams (including Minnesota artists Abigail and Michael Mouw) who have dedicated themselves to collaborative efforts that reflect close engagement with each other and with their selected photographic tools.
The Katherine E. Nash Gallery presents Diverse Connections, showing adjunct faculty at the University of Minnesota ’s art department. The show opens February 21, but the party is Friday, March 3, from 6-8:30. This will be a great opening: 39 young faculty members—among them some of the cities’ most interesting artists— Scott Stulen, Karl Bethke, Bruce Charlesworth, Asako Nakauchi, Anne Sugnet, and a host of others—will be celebrating each others’ work.
Ancient Traders Gallery presents the haunting and hopeful exhibition “Honor the Earth: Impacted Nations: a traveling art show” opening Friday, February 24. Through a stunning array of styles and mediums, the art illustrates the havoc wreaked on Native communities by dams, oil exploration, coal mining, logging and nuclear power. With more than fifty pieces of artwork spanning the continent the exhibit features a number of regional artists, including Minnesota’s Jim Denomie (Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa) and Star Wallowing Bull (Ojibwe/Arapaho).
Book Arts
The Minnesota Center for Book Arts presents Loosely Bound: New Work by MCBA’s Artist Cooperative, a show by MCBA’s artist cooperative members. It will show off the range of styles, approaches and methods you can try in the field of book arts and printing. The opening party is March 4, 6 – 9 pm , with food, drink, and music. You can meet the artists and see demonstrations of fine printing. Is making book in your future?

A Theater Mu Regional Premiere through March 5, 2006 at the Mixed Blood Theatre
A no-holds-barred romantic comedy, Cowboy Versus Samurai re-imagines the Cyrano de Bergerac story with an Asian twist. Through irony, humor, and social commentary, Cowboy Versus Samurai cleverly exposes the struggle of Asian Americans to find their place inthe vast American landscape…and with each other.
