Beyond Restraint: Expressions of Freedom

Submission Guidelines:
- Theme: Artwork must address the theme Beyond Restraint and explore freedom in the broadest sense, pushing boundaries of autonomy, liberation, and choice.
- Medium: Open to all 2D media (e.g., painting, drawing, photography, mixed media).
- Original Work: All submitted pieces must be original works created by the artist submitting them.
- Limit: Artists may submit up to three pieces. Only one work per artist will potentially be selected.
- Fee: $20 submission fee (payable via link below submission form).
- Supporting Statement: Each submission must include a paragraph explaining how the piece aligns with the theme and connects to the philosophy of freedom.
- Framing and Delivery: Any selected work must be professionally framed and ready to hang from a rail system. Selected pieces must be delivered to Umbra Arts no later than Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
- Jurors: Artwork will be juried by local art experts, historians, and curators.
Important Dates:
- Submission Deadline: Midnight, February 15, 2025
- Notification of Acceptance: Week of February 19, 2025
- Artwork Delivery Deadline: Wednesday, February 26, 2025
- Opening Reception: Friday, February 28, 2025
- Exhibition Run: February 28 – April 27, 2025
- Closing Gala & Artist Discussion: Sunday, April 27, 2025
Additional Details:
- Virtual Exhibition: All selected works will be showcased on the Umbra Arts website, whether for sale or not.
- Sales: Artists whose work is selected for the show and is available for purchase must sign a 1099 contract. They will also have the opportunity to merchandise their work in the gallery gift shop.
- Community Engagement: While attendance at the opening and closing gala is not required, participating artists are strongly encouraged to join the closing event for a community discussion on the exhibition’s theme and its impact on the 2SLGBTQ+Ally community.
