Author: Rebecca Dosch Brown
Rebecca Dosch Brown is a poet, flash fiction/creative nonfiction writer, and mixed media artist living in NE Mpls. She focuses on histories of the social construction of Normal and on the creative and artistic resilience of underdogs, survivors, and rebels.
She attempts to unravel how normality was and is used to exclude people who cannot fit into its constrictive framework. She is interested in, then, what bell hooks (1989) calls ‘marginality’ as ‘a site of resistance’–and how we who are marginalized find community and express creative resistance.
Artists, to her, should be engaged as ‘ein Ruttler’ (H. Read, 1937) and create work that fractures the artifice built to protect privilege and status quo. She is simpatico with risk-takers and eccentrics.
