Inspired by The Weight of Object: Juried Exhibition

SMI and Montclair Art Museum are partnering in the Fall of 2023 to create a unique exhibition of works inspired by MAM’s upcoming exhibition “Taking Space: Contemporary Women and the Politics of Scale”. This joint exhibition will be displayed concurrently at two locations in Montclair: Studio Montclair’s Leach Gallery and MAM’s Vance Wall Art Education Center Gallery.

For this exhibit the curators are asking artists to consider how size, perspective or repetition of an object as compositional can be interpreted. Take into consideration the position, the angle or the visual weight of an object within the picture plane and how this impacts a viewer’s understanding of a work.

The board and staff of Studio Montclair are never involved in the jury process.
