Jessica Roeder lives in Duluth, Minnesota. Her stories, poems, and essays have appeared in magazines including Kenyon Review, The Threepenny Review, Agni, Third Coast, Quarterly West, Valparaiso Fiction Review, Narrative, Alaska Quarterly Review, Southwest Review, Denver Quarterly, Chattahoochee Review, Mid-American Review, and The American Poetry Review. She is the author of a prose chapbook, Staircases Will Outnumber Us (Red Bird 2017). She was a 2011 McKnight Artist Fellow, and she has received a Pushcart Prize, a fiction fellowship at Writers at Work, and a Loft-McKnight Award. In 2015, she received a Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative grant to incorporate handwriting into her novel manuscript, CROW IN ANOTHER TREE. She teaches writing—fiction, poetry, and genre-crossing writing—online for Lighthouse Writers.
She is also a dance teacher and lifelong student. She trained with Dance for PD, a program of the Mark Morris Dance Group and Brooklyn Parkinson Group, and since January 2012 has taught an ongoing mixed-form dance class for people with Parkinson’s disease and their families. She teaches modern dance to adults for the School of the Minnesota Ballet.
